Sehr empfehlenswert – die Form zum Gießen der Schokoladentafeln ist nämlich gleich dabei. Eine seit mindestens 15 Jahren bitterlich vermisste Lieblingssorte habe ich schon wiederbelebt: weiße Schokolade mit gesalzenen Erdnüssen – himmlisch!
Highly recommendable: this books comes with a mold to make your own chocolate bars. I have already recreated an old favourite that hasn’t been available in shops for at least these past 15 years: white chocolate with salted peanuts – divine!
Nachdem ich gerade so ausführlich über ein ballonfahrendes Haus berichtet habe, möchte ich euch gerne das hier zeigen. Entstanden ist die Karte schon vor einer ganzen Weile als ich mit meinem Englischkurs „Sixty Lights“ von Gail Jones gelesen habe. Das Buch erzählt die Geschichte einer jungen Fotografin in Australien, England und Indien vor etwa 100 Jahren. Ich kann den Roman nur bedingt als Lektüre empfehlen: obwohl in der Geschichte eigentlich alles „stimmt“, hat sie uns alle nicht wirklich packen können. Die intensiven Bildbeschreibungen (Lucy führt Buch über nicht-aufgenommene-Bilder) waren für mich aber extrem inspirierend, so dass eine kleine Serie entstanden ist – für mich bisher eine einmalige Sache.
Dieses Bild hier bezieht sich auf eine in Indien angesiedelte Version des „fliegenden Holländers“, die Lucy von ihrer Mutter erzählt wird. Die Geschichte (ich hoffe, ich gebe sie einigermaßen korrekt wieder) hat mit der Oper nicht wirklich viel zu tun: ihr fliegender Holländer liebt eine in Indien lebende blasse Engländerin, er fliegt in seiner Gondel über das Land, immer auf der Suche nach seiner Liebsten. Sie schickt ihm, an Ballons gebunden, bunte Bänder mit Nachrichten in den Himmel. Natürlich finden sie nie zueinander.
Das grüne Band und die Worte „I Adore You“ spielen im Buch noch eine andere Rolle, aber das ist nicht so spannend und würde jetzt auch zu weit führen.
The Flying Dutchman – Indian Version
Just having given an extensive account of a journey in a balloonriding house (the article below is about the latest Pixar-movie „Up“) I would like to show you this piece here. I made this card quite a while ago when reading „Sixty Lights“ by Gail Jones with my english class. The book is about a young female photographer living in Australia, England an India about 100 years ago. I cannot unconditionally recommend the novel as a read: although the story is very well constructed the whole thing just wouldn’t really „get“ us. But the intense description of pictures (Lucy keeps a diary of „photographs not taken“) were extremely inspiring to me and so I produced a small series of cards – a one off for me so far.
This picture here relates to a version of the „Flying Dutchman“ that is placed in India and that Lucy’s mother tells her daughter at bedtime. This story (I hope I can reproduce it correctly) does not have an awfull lot to do with the opera: this flying dutchman is in love with a pale englishwoman living in India. He travels the indian skies, constantly in search of his beloved. She sends him love-messages on colourful ribbons attached to balloons. Of course they never get together.
The green ribbon an the words „I Adore You“ also play another role throughout the book, but that isn’t terribly exciting and would be a bit of a stretch right now.
Die Herausforderung der Woche bei Crazy Amigo heißt „Filmstars“ und weil ich gerade letzte Woche „Breakfast at Tiffany’s“ ausgelesen habe, war die Wahl ganz einfach. Bei dieser Gelegenheit habe ich dann auch zum ersten Mal versucht, eine Karte nach Vorlage zu machen, nämlich nach der von Everybody Art Challenge. Ich bin mir noch nicht abschließend sicher, ob ich diese Art zu arbeiten mag – aber es war sicher nicht mein letzter Versuch.
This week’s challenge at Crazy Amigo is „Moviestars“ and as I only just finished reading „Breakfast at Tiffany’s“ last week my choice was easily made. Being at it I tried working with a template for the very first time. The sketch I used was provided by Everybody Art Challenge. I am not yet decided whether I really like this type of work but I don’t think this was the last time I tried.
Dieser Satz kommt mir immer in den Sinn, wenn ich diesen Schweinestempel sehe – dabei hatte Karlson vom Dach seinen Propeller auf dem Rücken und gar nicht auf dem Kopf! Das tut auch eigentlich gar nichts zur Sache, hauptsache es fliegt und passt damit zum heutigen Thema bei TMTA. (Aber Astrid Lindgren ist trotzdem immer gut.)
Things that fly are this week’s topic at TMTA. This pig-stamp always kind of reminds me of Astrid Lindgren’s Karlson on the roof – although he wore his propeller on his back, not on his head.
Bei Crazy Amigo sind diese Woche Streifen gefragt. Eine gute Gelegenheit die Zetti-Dame mit dem schönen großen Hut zum Einsatz zu bringen. Außerdem habe ich einen ersten Versuch mit der Bandana-Technik gemacht (die Akzente in weiß), aber da muss ich noch ein bisschen üben. Ich habe mehrere Varianten des Hintergrunds gemacht (Sterne, Luftblasen) aber diese hier gefiel mir am besten. Auch wenn der Towel Day ja schon am Montag war: die ist für Douglas Adams.
Stripes are this week’s challenge at Crazy Amigo. A good opportunity to play with the Zetti-Lady with the nice big hat. I also made a first attempt at the bandana-technique (the white bits), but I guess I need a little more training there. I made different backgrounds (stars, bubbles) but in the end I liked this one best. I know, Towel Day was back on monday, but still: this one’s for Douglas Adams.
Heute ist Towel Day. Leider ist mir das erst gerade eingefallen und so kann ich nur auf ein paar Außerirdische aus der Konserve zurückgreifen. Dafür kann ich das ganze aber mit zwei Lieblingslesestellen aus der fünfteiligen vierbändigen Anhalter-Trilogie untermauern. Ich empfehle Kapitel 7 und 9 in „Das Leben, das Universum und der ganze Rest“ – der Bistr-O-Matic-Drive und die legendäre Unterhaltung zwischen Marvin und der Matratze.
Und nicht vergessen: 21 ist nur die halbe Wahrheit!
May 25th is towel day. Unfortunately I only just remembered and so I can only show some older aliens. But at least I can give you two favourite pieces from the five-part four-volume Hitchhiker-trilogy. I recommend chapters 7 and 9 from „Life, the Universe and Everything“ – the Bistr-O-Matic-Drive and the legendary conversation of Marvin with a mattress.
And don’t forget: 21 is only half the truth!
Bei Saturday’s Workout sind diese Woche Spin & Splash-Hintergründe gefragt. Die kleine Zentrifuge gehört zu meinen absoluten Lieblingsspielzeugen – und dürfte in der Anschaffung so ziemlich das günstigste Zubehörgerät überhaupt gewesen sein (naja, wenn man mal von den Klamotten absieht, die ich mir an dem Tag in Venlo auch noch gekauft habe….). Das Frauengesicht gehört ebenfalls zu meinen Lieblingsmotiven. In Verbindung mit dem Gitternetz und der rot-schwarzen Farbkombination lässt sie mich an die Comic- und Roman-Heldin Modesty Blaise von Peter O’Donnell denken.
Saturday’s Workout has challenged us to use spin & splash backgrounds this week. The little centrifugal is one of my favourite toys – and one of the cheapest (if you don’t count the bunch of clothes I also bought in Venlo that day). The woman’s face is a favourite as well. Combined with the grid and the red and black colouring she reminds me of Peter O’Donnell’s comic- and thriller-heroine Modesty Blaise.
Thema der Woche bei Sunday Postcard Art ist „Alice im Wunderland“, da musste ich natürlich dabei sein. Ich lese schon seit einiger Zeit stückchenweise „The Complete Annotated Alice“. Leider konnte ich das Buch nicht auf deutsch bekommen und auf englisch finde ich es schon recht anstrengend. Aber wenigstens kenne ich jetzt diverse Theorien darüber, warum der Hutmacher verückt ist und das Lied vom faulen Krokodil ist auch viel lustiger, wenn man weiß, dass es eine Parodie auf ein Lied vom fleißigen Bienchen ist. Die Spin & Splash-Karte ist schon ein bisschen älter aber die andere Karte habe ich extra für diese Challenge gemacht.
This week’s challenge at Sunday Postcard Art is „Alice in Wonderland“ and I definitely had to take part. I’ve been reading „The Complete Annotated Alice“ for quite a while – well inching my way through it, actually, as I couldn’t get hold of a translated copy and it is a bit of a task to read it in english. On the other hand I now quite a few theories about the hatter’s madness. And the song of the lazy crocodile is a lot more fun if you know that it’s a parody of a song about a busy bee. The spin & splash-card is not a new one but I made the other card especially for this challenge.
